Oregon laws

State laws of Oregon invariably affect Portland. Here are some listed problems. Also, discussion can take place here on what should be done about the problems.

  • One problem is the difficulty in getting of disability benefits. If someone becomes too "successful" so to speak; that is, if they make more than a certain amount of income, then they can lose their disability benefits. Therefore, if whatever disability which makes work difficult can be overcome for a time, but for whatever reason, the difficulty returns, re-disabling them, then they may have no safety net. Therefore, laws should probably be changed to better enable individuals to get off disability, while having a safety net in-case their disability returns. Perhaps, the law could be changed so that once someone is designated as "disabled" and then receives payments from the government, they could be allowed to regain payments quickly for perhaps 5 years, if that disability returns after they are able to find gainful employment.
