Food Server- This person is on the front lines serving prepared food. Food safety and interacting with hungry folks is the name of the game! Knowing what dishes are Vegetarian/vegan/GF and Not are important as well as keeping an eye on how long long stuff has been out and keeping or asking for ice pans (when available). Having a food handlers card is required (a good skill and easily available online).

Donation Line- This person is the food tent trivia master answering all kinds of questions (many not related to the food team so it is good place to learn about the camp on the job and make quick friends with those who do!) and does their best! Their main function is to accept incoming donations and keeping an eye out for open packages asking those to be handed out immediately to the crowd by whomever brought the item (as to avoid questions later and food waste). They also keep the front as neat as they can (drinks) and are talking with folks non-stop and serve as the frontline for volunteer opps. (this does not require a food handlers card).

The Floating Folks- these people are masters of all- they spend a lot of time organizing-running donations that are not ours (medics get the vitamins etc...) relieving the food servers for a break or prepping salads/ filling ice trays for food servers answering questions setting up shelves.... A food handlers card makes for an optimal floater.

2 of each position is required (at least) and 3 food servers at dinner is good
the food tent needs to be staffed 24/7 11-7 with these positions and 11-7 with 2 donation line/floater folks...
There is some confusion regarding the marches for Sunday the 9th. My understanding is that the GA approved a march at Noon, gathering at the PSU Park Blocks – see here. Later, another march, below, was announced to the media by the Street Team Committee. Choose for yourself which you will go to, or go to both. More information can be found in the comments to this post, the forums, and facebook.

John Lennon Imagine March

Tomorrow we march! We invite the Mayor’s office, the Portland Police Department and the Portland Marathon Chief Officers to join with #OccupyPortland at 12:00PM PST ( - where we will meet up with the Marathon at 2:30, at the Rose Quarter, then over the Broadway Bridge, along Naito Parkway, West on SW Jefferson to SW 4th to the occupied Chapman Park/camp/headquarters.

Together the city will join in celebration of John Lennon’s birthday, singing his famous song, “Imagine.”

Imagine all the people, living life in peace. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you will join us, and the World will live as One.”
The purpose of this and other Occupy Portland-related work on PortlandWiki is to provide a central organizing space for all relevant information and work related to this gathering that anyone can access and contribute to. This is a "leaderless movement"; we are all involved in the work details.

Occupy Portland is leaderless, but not structure-less. The central and primary web site for the movement is OccupyPortland.org -- so if you want to help organize, you also need to be there. If you want to ask a basic question or get a quick orientation, the best place is probably the Occupy Portland Facebook page.
* 16:10, 8 October 2011 (PDT): Chapman Square is crowded with occupiers, their tents and other supplies. Lots of activities happening all over the occupied square: classes (or maybe teach-ins), sign making, play activities for children, singing, organizing, etc. A loud generator is providing much-needed power. Would be great to replace with solar panels that could provide equivalent power supply. The library is has a bigger stock of books that was observed yesterday. So much food available that you'd have to try to go hungry. In fact, an observer was handed fresh fruit by a Food Not Bombs volunteer while also accepting new donations to the Occupy Portland library at the same time. Many impromptu, spontaneous and intelligent discussions happening everywhere, often made up of participants who otherwise have little in common with each other. An observer heard first hand from people quit their jobs to join the occupation, and know of others who did the same. Lots of awareness about the necessity of creating our own media and our own economy. Lots of spontaneous organization happening continuously. This is a movement.
* 21:38, 7 October 2011 (PDT): By mid-evening the mood at Chapman Square looked, felt and sounded celebratory and relaxed. Many families with children were present; most apparently having a great time. Lots of people engaged in activity ranging from light-hearted play to serious discussions. The 7:00 p.m. general assembly appeared to cycle through issues and discussions more productively, and appeared to avoid getting too bogged down--a step forward from the previous evening's GA.
* 08:50, 7 October 2011 (PDT): Reports aired over KBOO Radio's Positively Revolting program have indicated that protesters have come to a decision to consolidate in Chapman Square, located in Portland's Plaza Blocks, the downtown park situated across from Portland City Hall.
Camp residents still remained in Chapman Square as of noon, and held a general assembly to decide what to do next.
About Occupy Portland
Occupy Portland is Portland's answer to the Occupy Wall Street movement happening in New York City. The demonstration of solidarity with the Wall Street protesters will begin at noon on Thursday, October 6th, 2011 with a march out of SW Waterfront Park. Following the march, a public space in Portland will be "occupied" and used a a central location for meetings, events, and communications. (For logistical reasons, the exact location of the occupation site has not yet been announced.)

From the official website:

"We will gather in solidarity with the ongoing protest in New York City, Occupy Wall Street, and the growing number of cities whose people will no longer sit back watching corporate and special interests run their government. We are citizens of the United States, and this country is ours. We will take it back."

A note about Occupy Portland on PortlandWiki:
: Q: Is the information here on PortlandWiki a redundant replication of data presented on Occupy Portland’s web site, facebook page, twitter feed, etc?
: A: Some of it may be but the point is to ensure that everyone has access to information in many forms. Not everyone uses Facebook or Twitter (or knows how to), or can make sense of the different levels of information on the various Occupy sites. The Occupy Portland work here on the wiki adds value by consolidating, digesting, archiving, expanding and organizing material found on various websites, discussion groups, social media feeds, and so on.
