- don't think it is a good wiki convention to confuse external links with internal wiki links.
- don't think it is a good idea to immediately send people to other websites.
your thoughts?
I have to admit to lapsing into more traditional approaches to web linking. Particularly with prominently placed items like the site notice. The little wikified external link icon only adds to visual noise, from my perspective. Wondering if we could come to some sort of acceptable mid-point by replacing the external links with their respective graphical icons?
That would be fine for twitter and facebook - and I think that we don't need the links to occupy portland or wallstreet - they are noise and can be found on the occupy portland page.
Sounds good. I'll put up the icons for fb & t, and leave to your discretion on how to link the op & ows websites. My personal preference is with the non-wikified links, but will not revert if you change them to wiki links.

Are there any objections to removing the Occupy Portland sitenotice entirely? My thoughts are that, its purpose as I see it as being to point Occupiers and other interested parties to the Occupy Portland pages, all those people will likely be entering PortlandWiki via either the homepage or the Occupy Portland pages directly anyway. So a sitenotice on all pages serves little purpose other than possibly bringing more visibility to Occupy Portland (which I think we probably have enough of at this point, given the homepage).
Also I am coming back to my original thought that the sitenotice should probably be reserved for urgent PortlandWiki-related announcements most of the time. I do personally feel that Occupy Portland is important enough to be an exception to that rule for a while, but I'm thinking a few weeks is enough time to get the word out about our pages about it.
Thoughts?
I think "Welcome to OccupyPortlandWiki" will confuse people... to me it means that this is a wiki called "OccupyPortlandWiki", instead of PortlandWiki with a section of pages about Occupy Portland. So I changed it to "Welcome, Occupiers", which I think addresses the confusion issue but still intrigues anyone who's unfamiliar with Occupy Portland to click through "Occupiers" to learn what it's about. But maybe a different wording entirely would be better?
