These events are being lead by We Are Oregon, a group that has been doing incredible work in connecting with the families on the front lines of the foreclosure crisis, and buttressing families’ efforts to stay in their homes. Yes, “their homes.” Not “the homes they’re borrowing from the banks.” Unsettle Portland, as a local affiliate of sponsoring organization Take Back the Land,  is going to show up in support of a community’s right to take control of their land, and we call on all allies to join us.  Our intention in the morning is to show this family what level of response they can expect from the broader Portland community when the bank serves its eviction notice.

This is an amazing opportunity to directly demonstrate our solidarity. Let’s make the most of it. Let’s prove the national press wrong when they assert that our movement isn’t connected to the struggle of working families.

NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST FORECLOSURES COMES TO PORTLAND

The Occupy Wall Street movement has extended its focus to include spaces that the banks are trying to empty. Go here for some remarkable victories that have already happened. This Tuesday, December 6th is an escalation of that new focus with a national day of action against foreclosures with events happening all over the country, including Portland.

PORTLAND ACTION
  • 10am – Support a neighborhood family in resisting their eviction — to get the address as soon as we have it on Monday afternoon, follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook or join our email announcement list: unsettlepdx-announce-subscribe@lists.riseup.net
  • 4pm – Deliver “Keep Us Home For the Holidays” cards to the sheriff’s and county assessor’s office, while singing Anti-Eviction Carols (fancy garb encouraged): 510 SE Hawthorne

See you in the lawns!
