A Columbus Day Convergence takes place Monday, Oct. 10 (corrected from the Indymedia post), noon to 6 p.m. starting at the Oregon State Office Building (800 N.E. Oregon St.) and continues to Holladay Park at 2 p.m. for a free chili lunch and open mic (BYOB = Bring-Your-Own-Bowl). At 6 p.m. a procession will begin from the Holladay Park through Steel Bridge, finishing at the #OccupyPortland headquarters at Chapman Square. The purpose of this and other Occupy Portland-related work on PortlandWiki is to provide a central organizing space for all relevant information and work related to this gathering that anyone can access and contribute to. This is a "leaderless movement"; we are all involved in the work details.

Occupy Portland is leaderless, but not structure-less. The central and primary web site for the movement is OccupyPortland.org -- so if you want to help organize, you also need to be there. If you want to ask a basic question or get a quick orientation, the best place is probably the Occupy Portland Facebook page.

The Occupy Portland encampment is located at the Plaza Blocks Park. The Plaza Blocks are separated by SW Main Street, with Lownsdale Square on the north side and Chapman Square to the south. Both Plaza Blocks are bounded by Third and Fourth Avenues and Salmon and Madison Streets.

We Are the 99 Percent

• 19:27, 9 October 2011 (PDT): News from occupied Chapman Square: Occupy Portland Camp update from inside marathon enclosure - Sunday 09 Oct 2011 | Report by Sylvia O.
• 16:10, 8 October 2011 (PDT): Chapman Square is crowded with occupiers, their tents and other supplies. Lots of activities happening all over the occupied square: classes (or maybe teach-ins), sign making, play activities for children, singing, organizing, etc. A loud generator is providing much-needed power. Would be great to replace with solar panels that could provide equivalent power supply. The library is has a bigger stock of books that was observed yesterday. So much food available that you'd have to try to go hungry. In fact, an observer was handed fresh fruit by a Food Not Bombs volunteer while also accepting new donations to the Occupy Portland library at the same time. Many impromptu, spontaneous and intelligent discussions happening everywhere, often made up of participants who otherwise have little in common with each other. An observer heard first hand from people quit their jobs to join the occupation, and know of others who did the same. Lots of awareness about the necessity of creating our own media and our own economy. Lots of spontaneous organization happening continuously. This is a movement.
• 21:38, 7 October 2011 (PDT): By mid-evening the mood at Chapman Square looked, felt and sounded celebratory and relaxed. Many families with children were present; most apparently having a great time. Lots of people engaged in activity ranging from light-hearted play to serious discussions. The 7:00 p.m. general assembly appeared to cycle through issues and discussions more productively, and appeared to avoid getting too bogged down--a step forward from the previous evening's GA.
• 08:50, 7 October 2011 (PDT): Reports aired over KBOO Radio's Positively Revolting program have indicated that protesters have come to a decision to consolidate in Chapman Square, located in Portland's Plaza Blocks, the downtown park situated across from Portland City Hall.

Camp residents still remained in Chapman Square as of noon, and held a general assembly to decide what to do next.

Occupy Portland! The revolution is here. The revolution is now. The revolution is being wikified.

Other Groups and Events

Right 2 Survive has set up a camp advocating for houseless people, R2D2 at the corner of Northwest Fourth Avenue and West Burnside Street on the vacant lot next to the Chinatown gate. The site will be officially opened on Monday, October 10th, which is National Homeless Day. About Occupy Portland

Occupy Portland is Portland's answer to the Occupy Wall Street movement happening in New York City. The demonstration of solidarity with the Wall Street protesters will begin at noon on Thursday, October 6th, 2011 with a march out of SW Waterfront Park. Following the march, a public space in Portland will be "occupied" and used a a central location for meetings, events, and communications. (For logistical reasons, the exact location of the occupation site has not yet been announced.)

"We will gather in solidarity with the ongoing protest in New York City, Occupy Wall Street, and the growing number of cities whose people will no longer sit back watching corporate and special interests run their government. We are citizens of the United States, and this country is ours. We will take it back."

A note about Occupy Portland on PortlandWiki:

Q: Is the information here on PortlandWiki a redundant replication of data presented on Occupy Portland’s web site, facebook page, twitter feed, etc?

A: Some of it may be but the point is to ensure that everyone has access to information in many forms. Not everyone uses Facebook or Twitter (or knows how to), or can make sense of the different levels of information on the various Occupy sites. The Occupy Portland work here on the wiki adds value by consolidating, digesting, archiving, expanding and organizing material found on various websites, discussion groups, social media feeds, and so on.
