Papa Haydn, located both on Northwest 23rd Avenue and Southeast Milwaukie Avenue, is a European restaurant that serves delicious food, but most importantly, is famous for its delectable desserts. The Eastside restaurant was opened in 1978 to promote fine dining in Portland. Papa Haydn is responsible for having Portland's first espresso machine, so coffee loves, rejoice! The Westside restaurant was then opened in 1983. Now Papa Haydn has become a city favorite, and has everything you need to enjoy lunch and dinner. Next to the Westside restaurant is Jo Bar, which was opened in 1995. Jo Bar has a great happy hour.

Organic field greens, local cherries, almonds, aged manchego, balsamic vinaigrette $8.00

Oregon Albacore Tuna Salad

Olive oil poached loin and Smoked belly, Arugula, beets, kalamata olives, tomato vinaigrette $13.00

Smoked whitefish mousse, heirloom tomato, macerated shallots, hazelnut vinaigrette, toasted rye crumbs $10.00


Chicken Sandwich

Poached breast, cherry preserves, smoked mozzarella, crispy Walla Walla onions, arugula, bacon aioli, rustic bun $12.00

Cobb Sandwich

Smoked Turkey breast, fresh avocado, apple-wood smoked bacon and gorgonzola cheese on focaccia with mustard-mayonnaise. Accompanied by our cucumber salad. $13.00

Croque Monsieur

Black forest ham, imported Gruyere cheese and mustard-mayonnaise grilled on Parmesan coated bread. Also available with turkey breast. $12.00

Eggplant sandwich

Spicy grilled eggplant, garbanzo bean purée, red pepper-garlic aioli, feta, watercress, rustic roll $11.00


Highland Oaks natural beef grilled over hardwood and served on a rustic roll, accompanied by fries. Available with apple wood smoked bacon, Tillamook cheddar, Swiss or Gorgonzola cheese for $1 $11.50

Carrot Cake

Carrots, walnuts, coconut and pineapple in a cinnamon-spiced cake with cream cheese frosting.


Kahlua and espresso-soaked sponge cake with bittersweet chocolate-ricotta filling.


Classic New York style poached cheesecake made with cream cheese and sour cream; a seasonal choice also offered.

Chocolate truffle cake, hazelnut-chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache wrapped in almond joconde cake.

Panna Cotta

A smooth custard of heavy cream and sour cream, dotted with raspberry sauce and a rolled cookie.

Raspberry Gateau

Fallen chocolate souffle topped by whole berries and red current glaze. Bordered with bittersweet chocolate ganache.

St. Moritz German Chocolate Cake

Chocolate buttermilk cake layered with coconut pecan praline and finished with milk chocolate ganache.

Triple Chocolate Torte

Chocolate buttermilk cake in four layers filled with espresso ganache and glazed with milk chocolate ganache.

Vanilla Creme Brulee

Vanilla infused custard with a caramelized sugar crust

White Chocolate Mint Torte

White chocolate-mint mousse over dense chocolate cake, wrapped in almond joconde cake and bordered with espresso ganache.

Personal Favorite

My personal favorites on the menu is the Cobb Sandwich and the Banana Cream Pie, but everything is quite tasty!
