Polaris, a non-profit organization, emerged back in 2002r. Robert Guitron, the artistic director, was approached by four dancers after one of his classes in 2002, and they asked him if they could start a company together. Guitron told the dancers that there was not enough money to start a company, but the dancers told him that they would work for free. They started a fundraiser and managed to have their first performance and PSU's Lincoln Performance Hall for under $7,000. Polaris Dance Company applies the emotions felt in everyday life to the choreography they perform onstage. The members of the company also teach classes at the Polaris dance studio (1051 SW Taylor), and support all ranges of dance ability. To peruse a list of classes, visit polarisdance.org.
