The Portland Police Bureau is the city's body of persons empowered by the city to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. The Bureau is descended from the Metropolitan Police Force, which was established in 1870. The top position in the Bureau is the Chief of Police; that position is currently filled by Chief Mike Reese.
