TiE Oregon

Overview

TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) is a global, not-for-profit network of entrepreneurs and professionals dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship. TiE provides a supportive platform for mentoring, networking, and education for both entrepreneurs and other professionals interested in economic value creation.

History

TiE was started in 1992 by a group of successful South Asian, Silicon Valley professionals and entrepreneurs who were interested in giving back to society and foster the next generation of entrepreneurs. It has now grown into an open and inclusive international organization that crosses religious, ethnic and political borders. With a network of 56 chapters in countries ranging from Sweden and Dubai to India and Malaysia and over 13,000 members worldwide, TiE has brought together entrepreneurs, business people, government policy makers, professional service providers, academics, and the media, with the objective of enhancing the entrepreneurial climate in diverse geographic areas.

The Oregon chapter was launched in 2007 with an inaugural keynote address by the late C.K. Prahlad, the distinguished professor and internationally recognized business consultant famous as the father of the concepts of “core competence” and “the fortune at the bottom of the pyramid.”

Objective

One of the objectives of TiE in Oregon is to bring the benefits of its national and international connections to local entrepreneurs by inviting distinguished speakers, hosting delegations and connecting our members to other chapters in the TiE network. Another aim is to help members explore markets in other geographic regions and bring foreign investment into Oregon.

The Economist featured a special report on entrepreneurship in 2009 entitled “Global Heroes”, and commended TiE for being “a powerful force of doing good” and supporting entrepreneurs during the economic downturn.
