Table, quote formatting

  • Simple table without borders:
{|
|-
! header 1
! header 2
! header 3
|-
| row 1, cell 1
| row 1, cell 2
| row 1, cell 3
|-
| row 2, cell 1
| row 2, cell 2
| row 2, cell 3
|}

Results in:

header 1 header 2 header 3
row 1, cell 1 style="background-color:#ff0;" ! row 1, cell 2 row 1, cell 3
row 2, cell 1 row 2, cell 2 row 2, cell 3

  • Quote (this is the basic simple method we have at the moment, I'll be working on a more clearly copyrighted version soon):
<blockquote>"sample quoted text" -Oscar Wilde</blockquote>

Results in:

"sample quoted text" -Oscar Wilde

New "copyrighted content" template

Check it out in action on PortlandWiki:Copyrights (which I just wrote up, feel free to change anything of course). The template page is at Template:Copyrighted content, but it's pretty sparse at the moment. Let me know if you think it needs anything. -kotra (talk) 07:31, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Hey Matthew, great pages on Taboo and Rave! I enjoyed reading them. I hope you don't mind, but I gave them a little copy editing (spelling, grammar, wikitext formatting). Of course feel free to change any of it back if you want. One thing I noticed is you used <br /> tags for line breaks. Which works fine as you know. But actually just hitting enter once or twice will create line breaks. It is a little confusing though, because if you want more than one blank line between paragraphs, you sometimes have to make 2 more blank lines in the wikitext for every 1 blank line in the actual page. I don't know why they set it up that way, it doesn't make much sense.... -kotra (talk) 03:35, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

No problem, I just like proofreading/copy editing, it's like video games for me except a lot more boring and it doesn't improve my reflexes or make me a fun or relateable or less completely uncool person... Anyway there is no taboo against br tags, so feel free to use them if you want. I'm just raveing. -kotra (talk) 07:00, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Red Links

I think the war on red links comes from the Wikipedia culture (not saying that is where your war comes from, but in general). In the 6 years prior to Wikipedia - red links (really actually only "?" at the end of a future link) are not only an accepted part of wiki, but considered good form. Best, MarkDilley

Well then, I will have to accept being beefed upon - as I create red links often - as invitations for people to contribute. ;-)

GUI page

An award for you

Hi Matthew, Dave and I were talking at today's WikiWednesday about your great work on PortlandWiki, and wanted to show our appreciation for all your hard work on PortladWiki with the only award that could possibly expresses our deep gratitude:

The Huggable Portland Friend Award

For your great insights and improvements to "Pwiki". Portland, like this basset hound, loves you.

(in all seriousness though, you have done a lot of great stuff here and are causing the rest of us to get off our asses and do some much-needed work. Really looking forward to implementing the GUI changes with your help, and kicking off PortlandWiki's first photo scavenger hunt!) -kotra (talk) 02:52, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Pikia

Hi Matthew, I've (finally) responded to your comment on my talk page: User_talk:Kotra#Pikia. -kotra (talk) 06:32, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I've responded to your comment at User_talk:Kotra#search_bar_idea too. Also, thank you for not deleting that Anubis-inspired, heart-eating basset hellhound picture above. It makes me smile in praise of the ancient dark gods whenever I see it. -kotra (talk) 02:40, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

I've fed another response to the ravenous monster that is my talk page. -kotra (talk) 03:15, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

My talk page monster is always hungry, so I fed it again. -kotra (talk) 20:32, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Running late sorry

No hurry, my albatross laptop here so I'm not going where.
