Chapman Square, along with its northern neighbor Lownsdale Square are two city block-sized parks located near City Hall and other goverment buildings. The park is named in honor of William Williams Chapman, an early Portland developer who sold the land to the city.

Chapman square is bounded by SW 3rd Avenue, SW 4th Avenue, SW Madison Street and SW Main Street.

Since October 6th, 2011, Chapman and Lownsdale Squares have been the encampment of members of the Occupy Portland movement.
