Inner Southeast is a common colloquialism used to describe the parts of Southeast Portland that are considered to be readily accessible to the downtown core of the city. The exact boundary of what is "Inner" and "Outer" is highly subjective to the individual speaker and it is usually dependent on how close he or she lives to the downtown core. The phrase "close-in", as in "my place is close-in Southeast", is also often used in the same manner.

The closest neighborhood to both the Willamette and Burnside - the center axes for most of the city - is Buckman. The Southeast neighborhoods surrounding Buckman that are also generally considered to be in "Inner Southeast" are Sunnyside, Hosford-Abernethy, and Richmond.
