I would like to talk about the idea of this being an encyclopedia of Portland or something else. ~~ MarkDilley

That's definitely an important discussion to have! I've put a pointer to this page on Template:Discussions and PT:Community Portal. So to clarify, are you wondering about the "encyclopedia" part or the "Portland" part? I can see how either might be at issue... we could be more than "encyclopedia", or we could cover topics not directly having to do with "Portland" (like Vancouver, or Oregon government, or whatever). I'm not at all wedded to the "encyclopedia of Portland" bit, I just thought some sort of short description like that might help people understand what we do. -kotra (talk) 01:55, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
I agree with you both -- it's a good idea to have a short description of the site, and also "encyclopedia" might not be the best term. What other terms could we use?
  • guide to Portland
  • general resource for Portlanders
  • community bulletin board
  • …?

Perhaps it can be that... and more. :) Michael (talk) 07:02, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
I joined this site so I could contribute to it. My experience is based on the Davis Wiki, which calls itself "the definitive resource for davis, california". It has worked well.
Welcome, Dandelion! DavisWiki is one of the best (the best?) city wiki I know of, and we at PortlandWiki would be lucky to benefit from your experience! If you have any questions feel free to ask me on my talk page, or our resident ironically named fellow administrator User:WikiMaster. Thanks again for checking PortlandWiki out and we hope you stick around! -kotra (talk) 21:31, 13 November 2013 (PST)
