Cable Car Canyon is a local name for a draw in Goose Hollow where an elaborate wooden 1000-foot trestle was built in 1890, at a 21 percent grade, simply to get people up the hill. (It was meant to sell real estate.)
It wasn't a good idea. One of the cable cars got loose two days after it opened. The whole thing was scrapped for firewood in 1905. Among the few remnants are a short street segment called Cable Avenue, and an 11-foot iron wheel dug up in 1994.
