| Hawthorne Boulevard is an East-West two-lane arterial street running through [[Southeast Portland]]. At its west end it terminates at the [[Hawthorne Bridge]], which connects it to [[Southwest Madison Street| SW Madison]] in [[Downtown]], while its east end terminates at [[East 60th Avenue| SE 60th Avenue]]. Hawthorne is the southern boundary for the [[Buckman]] and [[Sunnyside]] neighborhoods, and the northern boundary for the [[Hosford-Abernethy]] and [[Richmond]] neighborhoods.

| Before the 1890s, Hawthorne was named Asylum Avenue because the [[Oregon Hospital for the Insane]] (now Oregon State Hospital) was then situated next to it. After the hospital was removed, Hawthorne was renamed in honor of the hospital's founder, [[James C.Hawthorne]].
