Flexcar was a Seattle-based car-sharing service that operated about 200 cars in the Portland area when it merged with Zipcar in 2007. At the time, Flexcar was the country's second-largest car-sharing service, and Zipcar the largest.
In 2001, Flexcar bought car-sharing pioneer Car Sharing Portland and hired its founder, Dave Brook. At its peak, Flexcar operated in Portland, Seattle, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
Many Portland residents still refer to Zipcar as "Flexcar."
