Cyrus Buckman

Cyrus Buckman was an early resident of the city of East Portland. The Buckman neighborhood is named after Buckman Arts Focus Elementary School that was named for him. He was an early advocate of universal public education in the Portland area.

Buckman was born in Stark County, Ohio, in 1834, and came to Oregon in 1867, settling in the neighborhood that now bears his name. He was a member of the Port of Portland committee, a member of the East Portland Board of Trustees, and vice president of the Citizens' bank of the east side. He died September 6th, 1894.
