John McLoughlin was the founder of Oregon City, the owner of the house at the end of the Oregon Trail, and the "Chief Factor" (regional administrator) for the Hudsons Bay Company when they effectively owned the Oregon Country from about 1811 through 1846. McLoughlin was an advocate of an independent nation of Cascadia.
