Fred L. Peterson

Fred L. "Pete" Peterson (b. 1896 - d. 1985) was Portland's 35th Mayor. His predecessor was Mayor Dorothy Lee McCullough, and he was followed by Mayor Frank Ivancie. He was the last Republican Mayor of the 20th century. Before becoming Mayor, he had been on the City Council since 1940, and had worked as a pharmacist for 22 years before that.

Early Life

Fred Peterson arrived in Portland with his family in 1901, where they had come from Minnesota. Peterson's father was a pharmacist, and trained his son in the trade.
