In In Other Words' own words, "In Other Words is a non-profit, volunteer-run, feminist community center". It serves as a feminist bookstore, a lending library, and an event venue. Located at 14 NE Killingsworth since February 2006, it was founded on SE Hawthorne in 1993 in response to the closure of Portland's only other feminist bookstore, A Woman's Space. It is Portland's only feminist bookstore, and as of 2011 was one of only 9 left in the US.[1]
In Other Words has the dubious honor of being parodied on the TV show Portlandia.
