Lownsdale Square, along with its southern neighbor Chapman Square, comprises the Plaza Blocks. The square is named after the pioneer leather tanner Daniel Lownsdale. In the past, Lownsdale Square was segregated into a men-only part of the Plaza Blocks.
Lownsdale Square was "occupied" by Occupy Portland from October 6th, 2011, through the forced eviction on November 13th, 2011.
