Snow

Snow, like tornadoes, is a rare meteorological event in Portland, and is one of the few things that make native Portlanders excited. However, due to Portland's inexperience with snow, even moderate snowfall will cause the city to nearly completely shut down, as Portland residents found in the December of 2008[1][2].
The greatest snow depth recorded by the NOAA between 1940 and 2007 was 15 inches on January 31, 1950. In that same time span, only trace snow had ever been recorded in the months of April through October.[3]
