There are many fantastic resources available for persons interested in researching Portland's history.
Online Resources
- The Multnomah County Library hosts the Oregonian Historical Archives, an imaged and searchable collection of the vast majority of published issues of the Oregonian (requires library card).
Physical Resources
- Reverse Directories: the Cole Directories can be used to look up residents by their names or by their addresses. This is useful for determining the resident of a specific location during the year of the directory. Collections are located at the City of Portland Archives, Oregon Historic Society Research Library, and the Central Library on the third floor's north wing.
