We plan to meet twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays until further notice, with work groups scheduled in between as needed. The time is now to get our neighborhoods and the communities we live in involved as much as we can to promote discussion and change for the greater 99%. This is a chance to meet up with people from your area to decide together what we can do in our neighborhoods. Turn your concerns into actions and discuss future plans. We do NOT by any means condone violence, hate-speech, or abuse by our members, be it verbal or physical.

Purpose

Occupy Portland invites you to Shut Down the Corporations!

Occupy Portland calls for a national day of non-violent direct action to reclaim our voices and challenge our society’s obsession with profit and greed by shutting down the corporations.

We are rejecting a society that does not allow us control of our future.

We will reclaim our ability to shape our world in a democratic, cooperative, just and sustainable direction.

We call on the Occupy Movement and everyone seeking freedom and justice to join us in this day of action.

There has been a theft by the 1% of our democratic ability to shape and form the society in which we live and our society is steered toward the destructive pursuit of consumption, profit and greed at the expense of all else.

By shutting down the corporations for a day we begin to recreate our democracy. We begin to create a society that is organized to meet human needs and sustain life.

Leap into Action on F29!

Occupy Portland called for a national day of action on February 29th to shut down corporations associated with the anti-democratic American Legislative Exchange Council, ALEC. Over 60 cities across the country will come together on F29 to shut down ALEC's corporate members.

Join us in Portland, home to dozens of ALEC corporate members, as we shut them down!

March Forth!

[improve]

  • Date: Sunday, March 4, 2012
  • Time: 2:00pm until 6:30pm
  • Location: PSU Park Blocks, SW Park close to SW Harrison, Portland, OR
  • Jump to this event's wiki page, edit it, discuss it or return to the events page.

Purpose

Occupy Portland began in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street on October 6th, 2011. With a united mission, almost 10,000 people took to the streets to speak out against decades of abuses of power and socioeconomic inequities. Since then, the national conversations concerning politics has been majorly impacted as people around the United States have become more informed on a number of issues.

On March 4th, 2012, we will gather in an effort to continue to drive positive changes in the nation, and even world wide.

The concept is simple. Each person picks an issue they are passionate about and want to see changed. Then each person will do some research and create one sign with a fact about that issue, for example:

Homelessness - "There are 24 empty houses for every 1 homeless person in the United States."

My hope is that people will stick to facts, and if so driven, will put one solution on the opposite side of their sign.

When we gather at 2pm on the 4th, everybody will unite with a group which is related to their issue where they will be able to speak to one another about their ideas, experiences, and why that issue is important to them. People should also feel free to travel between groups if they see something that interests them, after all, this event is about the free exchange of knowledge.

At approximately 3pm, each group will step off and march together to promote a better world.

We may encounter people who disagree with what we say. That's OK, in fact, I encourage people to engage those people in a calm and intelligent discussion. On many issues, we may be able to find a middle ground and even a solution to a problem that affects all of our lives. And in the end, if that person truly does not want to have a calm discussion, that is their choice and they don't have to join.

There will likely be police presence there. That's OK. My intent is that this march will have a number of contingency plans for a wide variety of situations. This will allow the march/parade to go on unimpeded and will make our action flexible, agile, and mobile. These plans will be discussed at the 2pm pre-march rally. We will avoid engaging the police to prevent the march from getting side-tracked.

This event is non-violent and peaceful.

While certain officers may show up looking for a fight, it's my intent to deprive them of that. The same thing goes for provocateurs. They may wish to start a negative interaction with the police, it's my intent to deprive them of that as well. This serves to protect the overall message. It also serves to protect people who want to bring their children.

With that in mind, everybody is welcome. My goal is to attract at least 2,500 to 3,000 people to this event.

Things I'm specifically seeking for the event
  1. Clowns - If you have a clown suit/make-up...I want to see you in it
  2. The Disco Trike and other mobile musical systems.
  3. Creativity - Dress up. Be artistic. Express your message uniquely
  4. Volunteers - An event like this is only as good as the people involved.
  5. A couple of megaphones - If the crowd is large enough, I'll have a hard time reaching people in the back without one.
  6. Livestream coverage
  7. A good time.

Can't think of an issue or having a moment of writer's block? Here, let me help you:

  • Internet legislation and freedom of information
  • Healthcare (Universal, Single-payer, Public Option, Privatized...)
  • Foreign Policy and use of US Armed Forces
  • Higher Education (College) and Public Education
  • Corporate Personhood (Citizens United)
  • Economy and National Debt
  • Social Justice and Equality
  • Police Brutality (Facts only. No "Fuck the Police" / "ACAB" signs)
  • Campaign Finance Reform
  • Climate Change / Environmental Issues

Remembering Fukushima

[improve]

  • Date: Sunday, March 11, 2012
  • Time: 12:00pm until 2:30pm
  • Location: Pioneer Courthouse Square 701 SW 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97204
  • Jump to this event's wiki page, edit it, discuss it or return to the events page.

Purpose

On the one year anniversary of the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster, we hope you come down with friends, family and all loved ones in remembering this disaster and it's impact on not only the lives lost, but the toll this disaster will have on the future of humanity, and more to the point, our planet Earth.

All are invited as this is a peaceful gathering in remembrance and a chance to discuss changes that can be made to avert such disasters and what we can do to help with educating the public at large about nuclear energy, it's waste, and it's very real impact on our planet.

You are encouraged to bring a flower (sunflowers encouraged), candle, sign, flag, or just yourself. Let's gather together in peaceful solidarity for those affected by this horrendous disaster, after all, it will affect all of us.

“This is the worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl. Routine reporting of elevated radiation levels was suspended in the early days of the crisis,” says Dr. Tim Takaro, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. “Although information about Fukushima is largely absent from our news media, suggesting that the danger is over, we know that efforts to contain the four troubled reactors – at least three of which sustained explosions - continues. Without reliable data regarding the amount of radiation released into seawater and the atmosphere, and the resulting concentrations in our food chain, we are ill-equipped to predict the longterm consequences.”

We cannot just wash it away.

Look forward to seeing you there, thanks!

A GLOBAL DAY Of Action Shut Down MONSANTO ! European movement

[improve]

  • Date: March 16 until March 17
  • Time: 7:00 AM
  • Location: Any and Every Monsanto facility in the world
  • Jump to this event's wiki page, edit it, discuss it or return to the events page.

Purpose

MONSANTO is one of the leading concerns in agricultural industry.
  • It's a leading producer of ROUND UP (glyphosate), which was proven to cause birth defects on some animals even in dilutions much lower than those used in agriculture.
  • Many of the seeds produced by the company are genetically modified to be RESISTANT TO CHEMICALS like Round Up. Eating products grown from them has been proven to have adverse effects on health.
  • The other controversy is TERMINATORS technology patented by one of the companies in Monsanto group. It allows to produce STERILE SEEDS which grow into plants that don't flower and grow seeds. It forces farmers to purchase new seeds each year, instead of growing their own and makes them totally DEPENDENT ON THE SUPPLIER. This caused many protests all over the World and it is a practice against natural rights!
  • Another controversy around Monsanto was introducing SYNTHETIC GROWTH HORMONE, known as "recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone" - hormone injected to cows to INCREASE MILK PRODUCTION. This hormone is present in milk and linked to many adverse effects like CANCER ACCELERATION.
  • The concern is responsible for pollution in different parts of the World, like dumping toxic waste in the UK (1965 - 1972), etc.
  • Moreover! Monsanto was also a producer of AGENT ORANGE - a herbicide and defoliant used by USA in Vietnam war. It was used to destroy crops and forests in many parts of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia (1962-71) and caused devastating effects on people's health like cancers, terrible birth defects, stillbirths and miscarriages, etc. These chemicals are still present in the soil.
  • Monsanto employs children in cotton-seeds manufacture in India. Work includes carrying of poisonous pesticides. Those children get less than half dollar daily for their work.

Europe resists genetically modified foods

EU legislation of 2003 demanded strict rules on labeling, traceability and risk assessments of GM foods by all the biotech companies. The 2004 regulation laid down procedures on traceability and labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and all products produced using GMOs. The mandatory labeling legislation extends its requirement to all food and food ingredients produced from GMOs regardless of the detectable presence of DNA or protein within the final food product. Let's help to shut the poisoner down and bring it to justice!

UNITE WITH WORLDWIDE PROTESTS against the crimes of this corporation with one objective

to educate Consumers, Farmers - and Monsanto... that we are not ignorant, and we will Not accept GMO Control of Food. Consumers need to know what they are eating, and the disaster Export Farming and Control of Seeds has caused in the 3rd World, disguised as philanthropy. Millions are dying. Indigenous lands are destroyed, poverty and hunger has increased. the fight in Europe is well underway, with resistance in Poland, Hungary, France and England support street movements in Africa, Asia and Latin America

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A REAL STAND!!!!!!!

POLISH

Praca obejmuje m.in. noszenie trujących pestycydów. Dzieci te zarabiaja mniej niż poł dolara dziennie.

Europa sprzeciwia sie genetycznie zmodyfikowanej żywności:

Prawo UE ( 2003 r.) zawiera ścisłe przepisy dotyczące etykietowania, identyfikowania i oceny ryzyka genetycznie modyfikowanej zywnosci przez wszystkie firmy. W 2004 r. ustanowiono procedury dotyczące możliwości śledzenia i etykietowania organizmów zmodyfikowanych genetycznie (GMO) i wszystkich produktow wytwarzanych z wykorzystaniem GMO.

Nasz cel: Edukacja konsumentów, rolnikow i przedstawicieli Monsanto... Nie bedziemy ignorantami! Konsumenci muszą wiedzieć co jedza, miec swiadomosc klęsk ekologicznych i Kontroli Eksportu nasion w krajach III świata. Miliony umierają. Nastepuje degradacja srodowiska.

Polska, Wegry, Francja, Wlk Brytania a takze niektore kraje afrykanskie, azjatyckie oraz kraje Ameryki Lacinskiej juz lacza sie w sprzeciwie.

Occupy May Day (Together)

[improve]

  • Date: The First of May 2012

Purpose

Members of Occupy Portland, local organizations, and any individual who wishes to voice their grievances relating to greed and corruption to our national government.

Why?

Since the end of the nineteenth century, May 1st (or May Day) has become synonymous with International Worker’s Day or Labour Day in many countries. Historically it has been known as a day of political demonstrations around the world. Just after the start of spring, when the weather begins warming up, we encourage the many that would be reluctant to brave the cold weather and snowy months that DC bares through the winter to Occupy Together through the summer and early fall to petition grievances against a corrupt system of government.

Global, 99 Occupy the World
NO WORK - NO SCHOOL - NO SHOPPING - NO BANKING - NO TRADING
THE PEOPLE OF THE PLANET WILL TAKE TO THE STREETS

We are calling on all people of the world to start planning NOW for a Global Strike.

The goal is to shut down commerce worldwide and show the 1% we will not be taken for granted, we will not be silenced, WE WILL NOT MOVE until our grievances are redressed.

GENERAL STRIKE AND BOYCOTT CALLED!
  • FOR IM/MIGRANT RIGHTS
  • FOR ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND LABOR RIGHTS
  • FOR PEACE WITH JUSTICE
  • FOR CIVIL LIBERTIES AND AN END TO THE POLICE STATE
  • FOR HOUSING, EDUCATION, AND HEALTH CARE AS HUMAN RIGHTS
  • FOR WOMEN'S RIGHTS AND GENDER EQUITY
Every continent, every country, every state, every city will stand up.

Labor and workers are under attack by the 1%.

Occupy stands Immigrants and with Labor both organized and not.

Unions and union rights are what made our working class strong.

Every benefit we have as working people has come from the struggles of organized labor and immigrants fighting for their rights. Now they are trying to destroy our bargaining rights, they want their greedy hands on our pensions. They don't have enough already? ENOUGH.

A DAY FOR MIGRANT RIGHTS, LABOR RIGHTS, HUMAN RIGHTS.
STOP FORECLOSURES!!!

We demand good jobs and good pay for everyone on the planet. Citizen of the country they work in or not. Outsourcing will no longer be tolerated by the so called "job creators" for cheap labor. All human beings deserve a living wage.

Education, Housing and Healthcare are human rights NOT "entitlements."
