Beyond “Save the Post Office”
At a Portland dinner party for community activists and organizers held at the First Unitarian Church (details below), guest of honor, Gar Alperovitz, asked one of the participants to write up a proposal for transforming the U.S. Postal Service into a worker-owned cooperative. The participant (Dave Myers) said he'd do it, and recruited Chris Lowe (vehemently opposed to the idea) to help him write it.

WHAT: A dinner conversation with Gar Alperovitz and local leaders, scholars, and activists. The conversation will focus on strengthening the cooperative economy and other strategies for democratizing wealth and building ‘community-sustaining economies’ in Portland and beyond. The evening will include a short talk by Gar, a lightly facilitated dialogue, and lots of opportunities for mingling and networking. A buffet style dinner will be provided by Nawitka Catering, including a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian finger foods, and a selection of beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
