History

Portlandia is the name of the second largest hammered copper statue in America (the largest is the Statue of Liberty). The 36 foot tall statue is the creation of sculptor Raymond Kaskey, who completed the sculpture in 1985. Based on the figure shown in Portland's city seal, Portlandia depicts a woman, dressed in classical clothes, welcoming traders to the port city.

Today Portlandia welcomes visitors from the 3rd floor landing of the Portland Building. Before reaching its current perch, Portlandia was staged and assembled in a cavernous waterfront building at railroad freight car builder Gunderson LLC, then floated up the Willamette River to downtown Portland, where it was transported by large truck to its current spot.
