Rally to allow Gresham BMXers to use Gresham Skate Park
[improve]
- Date: Sun, January 15
- Time: 12pm – 4pm
- Location: Gresham Skate Park 219 S Main
- Jump to this event's wiki page, edit it, discuss it or return to the events page.
Purpose
- Let's show some solidarity with our sisters and brothers in Gresham.
Occupy Gresham is hosting the Gresham BMX Bike Group as well as the PDX Bike Swarm in a rally to support the right for BMX bikers to use the Gresham Skate Park (GSP). The group will meet at the GSP at 12PM on Sunday, January 15th and will rally until 4PM. The event is family friendly. There is currently an ordinance in Gresham that prohibits bicycles and scooters at the GSP. The police are under a Mayoral mandate to cite riders and confiscate all bikes that enter the park. The BMX bikers and their parents have started a grassroots movement to repeal the ordinance. They have gathered petitions and met multiple times with the City Council, but have faced repeated rebuttals. The skateboard community supports sharing the park with the BMX bikers. Nearly every other park in the state allows bicyclists and skaters to ride together in harmony. All parties involved in this event believe there is no valid reason for the current ordinance.
- Follow the swarm blog for updates. http://www.PDXbikeswarm.org
We need bodies to show up so spread the word!

Dharma Circle

- Date: Mondays
- Time: 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
- Location: Friends Meeting House, Downstairs 4312 SE Stark, Portland, OR, 97214
- Jump to this event's wiki page, edit it, discuss it or return to the events page.
Purpose
- Dharma Circles invite us to rest in the ease of the present moment.
Frosty leaves as non-dual teachings from the world’s wisdom traditions open into the spacious field of the heart. Reflection, silent sitting, and silent movement soften our boundaries and open awareness of our essential nature, nearer to us than our own breath.
- All contemplative practices and levels of experience (or no experience) are welcome.
The door is open at 6:45. At 7:00 pm we begin with dialogue and dharma reflection, followed by an hour of silent practice.
- Feel free to bring cushions, mats, or whatever is comfortable for your sitting practice (some cushions and chairs are provided).
Grounded in the heart, our actions grow from deep soil to yield fruits that enhance peace, justice, beauty, and balance in all that we do.
In a tumultuous world, maintaining a spacious heart requires attention, intention, and ever-deepening love.
Sangha or satsang is created anytime we are present with others for reflection or practice in the space of the heart, in service of truth. Sharing that intention, our dialogues invite us into reflection on our deepest Being, Mystery, Emptiness, the Beloved.
- Every faith or no faith are equally welcome here.
We embrace human nature just as it is, holy and broken, perfect and imperfect at the same time, and steep together in the timeless present moment, where definitions slip away.
Gathering in satsang, sangha, or a community of practice provides a rich common ground as we travel in the terrain of the Heart.

Drawing on their 25-year experience of living in community, members of the Peace House will share ideas, resources and "hand holding" with those who would like to get started.
This is an exercise in mutual sharing. No one is an expert in how to live together in community, but together all can learn what is needed.

Occupy the Courts will be a one day occupation of Federal courthouses across the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., on Friday January 20, 2012.
- Move to Amend volunteers across the USA will lead the charge on the judiciary which created — and continues to expand — corporate personhood rights.
- Americans across the country are on the march, and they are marching OUR way.
They carry signs that say, “Corporations are NOT people! Money is NOT Speech!”
And they are chanting those truths at the top of their lungs!
- The time has come to make these truths evident to the courts.

- Date: Saturday, January 21, 2012
- Time: 5:00pm until 10:00pm
- Jump to this event's wiki page, edit it, discuss it or return to the events page.
Purpose
January 21, 2012 - Oregon isn't done being Occupied.
900 Court Street Northeast Salem, Oregon 97301
Occupy Oregon Email Group: occupyor@googlegroups.com
- Call to Action
Inspired by Occupy Wall Street, affinity groups from Unified Oregon Occupations are holding a General Assembly, following the nationwide Occupy the Courts Solidarity demonstration, on the steps of the Capitol Building in Salem.
- We are calling out for representatives in Astoria, Bend, Eugene, Salem, Portland, Seaside, Roseburg, and all other Oregon Cities to rally with us and prepare for Occupy the Legislature on February 1st.
- We will have an agenda discussion, which will include political involvement tactics, non-violent civil disobedience, and logistics.
We will be discussing housing options for people coming from outside of the Salem regions, so we can make sure thousands of Oregonians can be present on the first in a timely fashion.
If we show Solidarity, we can have an action similar to the protests in Madison, Wisconsin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Wisconsin_protests
Corporations are NOT people. Money is NOT Speech. ALEC and profit driven lobbyists will no longer control our government. The time has come to make these truths evident to the Capital.
- Exercise your freedom and challenge systemic oppression. Occupy Multiply!

The Rise of the Dark Feminine and the Healing of the Wounded Masculine
[improve]
- Date: Saturday, January 21, 2012
- Time: 7:00pm until 8:00pm
- Location: In Other Words 14 NE Killingsworth, Portland, OR 97217
- Jump to this event's wiki page, edit it, discuss it or return to the events page.
Purpose
There's a lot of hype about this year.
Come find out what to build up and what to put in the compost as we embark upon an exciting journey together in 2012.
Astrological events this year highlight the rising of the dark feminine archetype and deep healing for the wounded warrior.
The dark feminine is a power that is sourced in the living earth itself. It is wild and uncontainable, showing us the way to live with uncertainty. This energy helps us surrender old forms and transform them into vibrant, living, creative power.
The divine masculine is the part of each of us that wants to take action and make change, but it has been wounded and twisted by the dominator culture of violence and control. Now this part of the collective psyche is ready to be purified and get clear about what really matters.
Come find out more about what to expect in the year ahead and gain specific tools to support you in this great adventure of revolution and healing.
- Don't know anything about astrology?
Don't worry – we'll take it slow and go easy on the jargon.
Everyone will find something useful to help move through the changes of 2012 with more presence and grace.
- All genders welcome.
This lecture is free, but donations to In Other Words are accepted and strongly encouraged.
